Research Studies

National Library of Medicine - The NLM's homepage provides information about Library programs, services, connections to NLM online services, links to specialized NLM web servers, and multimedia features such as the Visible Human Project and Profiles in Science.
MEDLINEplus - The NLM's site for consumer health information was started in October 1998. It is a selective list of appropriate, authoritative health information sources. Included are links for common diseases and conditions, dictionaries for finding definitions of medical terms, directories for finding health care professionals and facilities, libraries, and other useful information.
LOCATORplus - The NLM's web-based online catalog. LOCATORplus provides information about the library's holdings, including monographs, serials, and audiovisuals.
The Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications (LHNCBC) - The LHNCBC server provides information about Center research projects, including digital library research, automated indexing techniques, thesaurus research, natural language processing, image processing, database design, expert systems, and computer-based learning. The site links to Internet Grateful Med, HSTAT, Profiles in Science, the Unified Medical Language System Knowledge Source server, and the Visible Human data.
National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) - Provides access to GenBank, an international DNA sequence database, produced, maintained, and distributed by NCBI. Thirty-plus related molecular biology databases and analysis services developed by NCBI are also available. These include resources for DNA and protein sequences, mapping information, 3-D structure data, gene expression information, the biomedical literature, and services related specifically to the tracking and consolidating of data from the Human Genome Project. Major services include Entrez, BLAST, Gene Map of the Human Genome, Molecular Modelling Database, and PubMed.
Division of Specialized Information Services (SIS) - Provides information on toxicology/environmental health and HIV/AIDS. Among SIS' many databases are TOXLINE, HSDB (Hazardous Substances Data Bank), and AIDSLINE, as well as DIRLINE, a directory of organizations and other resources in health and biomedicine.
HSTAT - Health Services/Technology Assessment Text - A free electronic resource that provides access to the full text of clinical
practice guidelines, technology assessments, and other documents useful in health care decision making.
Integrative Medicine
Sound Cancer Connections is an integrative care program in the Olympia, Washington area, which provides local resources for cancer patients and their families by addressing the mind, body and spirit to improve quality of life. This program coordinates education and facilitates the integration of care between conventional medicine and complementary therapies. Examples of services include oncology massage, yoga and acupuncture. Sound Cancer Connections is a partnership of Providence St. Peter Hospital, Providence Western Washington Oncology and RadiantCare Radiation Oncology.
